MAYCAVALY
MAYCAVALY was formed in January 2000 by Michael Donnelly, Tony Fitzmaurice
and Graham Byrne in the surroundings of Molly O'Gradys pub in Victoria Station.
The three life long friends were discussing how difficult it was to find
with ease Irish pubs within London. What facilities would the pub have?
Setanta, Sky, Pool, Darts etc? Would it serve food? Would there be live
music? On this basis a decision was made to set up an Internet guide of
Irish pubs in London. Their aim is to provide a comprehensive list, catering
for all ages, accessible to all Irish people, particularly those in America
and Australia, or indeed anyone anywhere who may be visiting London and
looking for a pub with an Irish feel to it.
The name MAYCAVALY shows how proud the three are of their first generation
roots. MAY refers to County Mayo where Michael's mother comes from (his
father hails from County Armagh). CAV refers to County Cavan where Tony's
mother comes from (his father hails from County Galway). ALY refers to County
Offaly where Graham's father comes from.
Michael has had a number of years as a manager and Agent of numerous Irish
bands all over London and throughout the rest of country. Tony's cousin
Marky Fitzmaurice has represented Dublin in Gaelic football. Graham has
some cousins of note too with Joe and Vinnie Byrne having played Gaelic
football for the Offaly team, while Elish Byrne's fiddle playing is known
worldwide.
MAYCAVALY In January 2002, Michael bought out Tony and Graham's shareholding
and decided to set up whatsIrish.com due to numerous requests from customers
and friends requiring a more broadbased Irish service.
The site covers GAA, soccer, music, jobs, news, concert tickets and Irish
pubs in more countries such as USA. Michael recently has done interviews
on BBC GLR 94.9, Irish World and Irish post newspapers and the Mayo News
and Western people and also a Chicago radio interview with John Gurhy which
reached an estimated 1 MILLION listeners. Geesala promotions was established
in November 2002 to promote local bands in London WhatsIrish.com also successfully
booked the bands for the Southwark Irish Festival 2002, 2003 & 2004.
A text messaging service is now established as well as a whatsIrish.com
clothing range and a quiz show is coming soon. I am also proud to be associated
with the printing business feetprint.co.uk which we created in June 2004
along with Matt Simpson.
I hope you enjoy the website. |
